Blur - Fool's Day - new single - Record Shop Day

It lives in a shop, but not in a very big shop in the city. Blur and friends celebrate Indie with 'Record Shop Day' new singles.

Blur may now all have much bigger houses in the country, but that’s no reason to assume they’re all too stuffed on the fat of the land to produce something worthwhile. But since we haven’t heard the record in question we can’t truthfully say either way, wrapped as it is in a tight (and rather ominous) shroud of secrecy.

It’s all in a good cause though, as ‘Fool’s Day’ (a limited edition one side 7inch vinyl) will be released as part of ‘Record Shop Day’ – a slightly anachronistic if well meaning event - intended to highlight the continuing contribution of indie stores to music.

1000 copies of the record have been pressed and will be available as independent record shops around the UK open their doors on Saturday 17th April.

Fool’s Day a new song from Blur will be released on a limited edition one-sided 7 inch vinyl single on April 17th, 2010 through Parlophone Records.

Recorded in London earlier this month, ‘Fool’s Day’ is the first song the 4 members of Blur have recorded together since ‘Battery In Your Leg’ from the album 'Think Tank' in 2003.

Damon Albarn explains, "We want independent record stores to continue - they're an important part of our musical culture. Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and we hope people like it".

A series of companion singles will also be released by artists including, Babyshambles, Bat For Lashes, The Beatles, Hot Chip, Jonsi and the Pet Shop Boys.

Each release will come in a vintage-style paper Parlophone house bag which has been designed especially for the releases and uses elements of historic sleeves from the 1960’s to the present day. As with the Blur release, numbers will be kept to a strict 1000.

Miles Leonard, President of Parlophone: “Parlophone and our artists recognise the importance of our Indie stores and their contribution to not only our new and developing artists but to our catalogue as a whole. Being able to support this campaign with some great 7" releases from The Beatles to Bat For Lashes is our way of thanking them for their continued support. After all 'Music Matters'.”

Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys: "Independent record stores play a vital role in selling music from the fringe as well as the mainstream. We're delighted to be releasing a one-off vinyl single only available in independent shops as part of Record Store Day."
