A legend in his and in everybody else's underpants, Sir Tom Jones celebrated his 70th birthday on Monday (7th June) and marked the event with the release of the download and limited 7" split single featuring versions of Dylan's 'What Good Am I' and John Lee Hooker's 'Burning Hell' on Island Records. Taken from the forthcoming album 'Praise and Blame' - released on 26th July, a collection of songs that sees him return to his roots - not his grey ones this time, but his musical ones. This time round Tom has been aided and abetted by Kings of Leon producer, Ethan Johns.
Amongst those covered by Jones Susan Werner, Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, The Staple Singers, Mahalia Jackson and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
As well as producing, Ethan Johns plays on the record alongside drummer Jeremy Stacey and bassist Dave Bronze.
The album is released through Island Records on July 26 and is preceded by a limited edition 7" split single of John Lee Hooker's 'Burning Hell' and Bob Dylan's 'What Good Am I' on June 7th – Tom's birthday.
