Graham, John, Terry, Eric, Terry and Michael - six lads
that shook the world. Or at least a part of it. Not that anything wobbled
or fell over or needed a UN endorsed aid campaign to relieve it exactly - but
shaken nonetheless. And quite rudely too. Not that anyone minded, not with groundbreaking
animations of giant feet, flying elephants and missiles erupting from church steeples
to amuse oneself of a Thursday evening. Nor any evening for that matter, not now
anyway, as EMI have remastered all EIGHT Monty Python albums including:
'Another Monty Python Album', 'Monty Pythons Previous Record', 'Matching
Tie and Hankerchief', 'The Holy Grail', 'Live at Drury Lane',
'Life Of Brian', 'The Meaning Of Life', and 'Contractual Obligation'.
So you'll be able to listen them whenever you like. Or not at all. Whatever the
case may be. Widely credited as exerting the same level of influence on
comedy that The Beatles did on music, (with George Harrison himself suggesting
that the Pythons 'took up where the Beatles left off') Monty Python's legacy to
comedy both in the UK and the US remains unparalleled. True this feckless collective
of Cambridge and Oxford graduates plundered the archives of fellow surrealists
like Peter Cook shamelessly on occasions, and audaciously stole the format of
Spike Milligan's irreverent sketch-show Q5, but they were original if nothing
else, extending the stream-of-consciousness, deconstructive sketch-format into
an altogether different kind of beast. One named after a Field Marshall and something
slippery. A beast beginning with 'M' and ending in 'N'. Something iconic. Something
unique. Something to quote at length. So there you have it. Each of the
remasterd albums includes previously unheard and unreleased bonus tracks, along
with interviews with Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Graham Chapman. All artwork
has been overseen by Terry Gilliam, who opened his private archive to allow access
to previously unseen images - many of which are included in the accompanying CD
booklets. The covers themselves are faithful to the originals, with sleevenotes
provided by comedy historian Robert Ross. Remastered at Abbey Road and
Redwood Studios, the albums will coincide with the UK theatre debut of Eric Idle's
Spamalot at the Palace Theatre, London, on the 2nd October 2006.
