What THEY say … "Murder By Death, currently garnering critical acclaim for their recently released album,
Il Bocca A Lipo are re-releasing their first two albums on Monday 4th June. Dynamic and emotionally charged, Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing, is an
auspicious debut, ranging from beautiful and ambling string-laden compositions to
aggressive, complicated, dark rock songs. Tracks from this album have been used in
practically every form of media, from independent movies and dance recitals, to BMX
videos. It was recorded and mixed in six days in 2002 at Acme Studios in Chicago.
The band’s second effort, Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them? was
recorded up in the Catskill Mountains in 2003. It tells a brooding tale of survival in small
western town, where the residents are plagued with demonic assaults. Part horror movie
climax, part western barroom brawl and a gloss of wintry distortion, the evocative
narrative unfolds as the locals begin to question their own mortality whilst the Devil wages
war on their homeland. The opening track, ‘The Devil In Mexico’ features guest vocals by
former label mate, Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance." What WE say … Deliciously overwrought gothic in the style of bands like Rasputina, Lucero, Against Me!,
Interpol, The Walkmen and William Elliott Whitmore. Not for the faint-hearted either as
the tunes veer between cello beating eight-minute ethereal instrumentals, to driving punk
rock, to alt-country. Discovered by Thursday vocalist, Geoff Rickly, who helped them get
signed to Eyeball Records and produced their second album, Murder By Death are to music
what Aleister Crowley was to Freemasonry. Mighty fine, literate, brow-beating stuff, but
fortunately no longer a mystery. Must have albums. No kidding.. Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing,/Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them OUT on COOKING VINYL 04.06.07 Relevant sites: www.murderbydeath.com
