What THEY say … “Brazilian Beats n Pieces’ is an essential introduction to the Mr Bongo Brazilian catalogue.. It also happens to be the world’s first officially licensed all Brazilian cut-n-paste mix. Continuing on from the highly successful ‘Brazillian Beats’ compilation series this, the 8th instalment is an all-Brazilian turntablised/cut-up mixtape manipulated by the nimble fingers of Kev Lockhurst AKA Phat Kev. Here he has selected, mixed, scratched and beat juggled his way through 30 of his favourite tracks from the previous ‘Brazilian Beats’ compilations. In addition to the main 50-minute mix of bonus remix Tenorio’s ‘Nebulosa’ an extra re-edit of a Boogaloo Combo track, both by Kev himself, has been included. Kev has been DJ-ing since the age of 13. Now 22, he has already supported a wealth of artists including De La Soul, Omar, Fun Lovin Criminals, Ugly Ducling, People Under The Stairs, Jehst, Mr Thing, Blak Twang and DJ Yoda. Mr Bongo started out as a specialist shop in 1989 handling South American music which lead to a thriving Latin scene championed by such characters as Gills Peterson in clubs like Dingwalls.” What WE say … Slinky, slouchey, itchy and scratchy and thoroughly uncompromised by either fashion or tastes. Brazilian and Latin music without the cooing gaudy excesses of Bossa and all the camp lounge crew that occasionally beleaguers it. Seriously smooth and dub. Seriously phat and lean.
