BiG DeaL !! Palladium !!
SiGNED, SEALED, DELiVERED ~ YOUR NEW BEST BAND!!

PALLADIUM

Crud's NOSEY BASTARD pokes and probes the industry mechanics of Virgin Record 's latest signing, PALLADIUM. Here's how they got signed. Here's how they celebrated. Here's how they intend to f**k it all up. Just sign here boys....

24/10/2007

Artist: PALLADIUM
Label: Virgin Records
Label Mates: Dave Gahan, K.T Tunstall, Fountains of Wayne, Gorillaz, Beenie Man, Ben Harper

Here's the deal. Here's the BiG DeaL. That shitty four-piece you've been in with your mates since Year 8 eventually managed to get some daft industry type to hand over a blank cheque and to tell you were going to be famous. Very famous. You wouldn't have to talk to your former classmates at school. You wouldn't have to get up early. They only thing they didn't tell you was that music was more than just writing songs and shaking your balls on stage. It was about being there on time. Releasing something on time. It was about being famous on time.

And sometimes it just kind of happens.

Palladium will release their new single 'High 5' on November 5th. It is the follow-up to their debut single 'Happy Hour' which put the band firmly in the spotlight and sold out its limited edition run in a day, with demand far exceeding supply. Since returning from LA where they recorded their debut album with Tony Hoffer, Palladium have spent the summer touring, including a residency at the Barfly. They recently supported Palladium-fan Amy Winehouse at Somerset House and have also played dates with Mika and Mystery Jets. Their album will be released in January. If you haven't caught the Palladium live experience yet, they have just announced another series of dates in September and October.

How did you get signed?
We wrote a load of songs and performed them at the crocodile club in Harajuku, Tokyo. Virgin records happened to be there and they signed us a few days later.

How did you celebrate?
Muchos Kanpai! And we blew most of our adavance on Rocky Morris’ hair products and blue drinks in Paris.

Did you have any other labels biting at your heels?
At our first gig after Tokyo there were fifty odd, grumpy looking A and R guys hanging out in the shadows.

How famous would you say you are right now?
Famous enough to be doing an interview via email.

Live circuit or showcase? Did you do it the hard or easy way?
We did no showcases just random gigs such as South Woodford Baptist church

On signing was there anything you were asked to do that you didn’t want to do?
No, but we asked our A n R man to do a sexy dance. He declined. We wouldn’t be preapred to be cruel to children either.

How much did getting signed rely on being tied to a scene?

We have our own parties, we put on our own gigs and we bring our own crowd-for us we are the scene.

Daftest story they’ve ever invented about you for the press?
The press don’t talk to the label they talk to us. Any daftness comes from us. Does your label or your management support or discourage unruly rock n’ roll behaviour?
We’ve pulled off a few pranks, but no one seems to care or know.

Where’s the strangest place you’ve been asked to do publicity?

Standing in the pacific at 7am fully clothed for a couple of hours is not all that fun.

Have they made you tour with anyone you didn’t like?

No, but we’ve toured with people who don’t like us!

Last major decision your label or your management made that you didn’t like?
Rocky was offered £500 pounds to go onstage naked when we supported Amy Winehouse, but refused. He doesn’t have to get naked for money anymore.

How would YOU describe the new release?
Buy our record its brilliant- ‘This is the golden era, these are the good old days’

How many years do you give yourself in the industry?
Give us a few years and we’ll be running it, that’s if it doesn’t implode first.

How dirty a word is the ‘industry’ to you?
Compared to some of the words we know ‘industry’ really isn’t that bad.

If it were all to collapse tomorrow would you go back to your old job?
This is our old job.
