CO-ORDINATES - WHERE THE STARS ARE AT/UNKLE JAM

UNKLE JAM

Crud asks Tyson, Bobby and Adonistar of UNKLE JAM, 'Where's Your Head At?'

20/03/2007

They call their music electro-soul. We very nearly called our youngest daughter electro-soul for the very same reason: she was soft, she was sweet, but she could also kick-off with the force of 1700 volts if provoked. Visitors were at once charmed by her rippling, soft soul underside and thrilled by her P-funk edge. She, just like Bradford-Hawaii trio, Unkle Jam, was able to provide us with instant pop hooks, dubbledge grooves and sound, solid doses of oscillating hardcore jam and still get away with crayoning all over the walls when no one was looking. So it’s strange to find that electro-soul is not their real name. Neither is it Unkle Jam. Either with or without a K. Tyson, Bobby and Adonistar. That’s who they are and they recently served us the wiggly, shaky funkfest Luv Ya by way of introduction. Named after (no really, this time) a tune from Funkadelic’s 1979 album ‘Uncle Jam Wants You’ Tyson, Bobby and Adonistar, united by unconventional upbringings and a circle of iconic influences, breathe fresh life into Prince-style falsettos, slinky bass patterns and shaky-ass conundrums of soul. They also have a highly anticipated debut looming. But enough of the bollocks. Let’s catch up with the funksters themselves. We ask: where are they now….
