Flanger - Inner Space/Outer Space
Flanger discovers music of intuition and chance. Questions
of authorship arise, as it did when Miles Davis was
recording with producer Teo Macero in the seventies,
where spontaneous improvisations then savagely edited
essentially reinvented the original compositions.
There's a fusion-y feel that is too knowing to fall
into shit clichés: gorgeous vibraphones, subtle variance
of percussion, all undercut by the satisfying precision
of the programming that creates lovely space; the weird
jump cuts and edits that reveal a techno pulse amidst
the layers of lush instrumentation.
Flanger says: You are about to take the quantum leap
to a fantastic journey on the other side of human understanding.
Let's go!

BONOBO - Animal Magic
Bonobo (a.k.a Simon Green) is a young man heralding
from the town of Brighton. A talented musician and DJ,
Simon brings a wide range of influences to his album,
which is apparent as you stroll through the soundscapes
he produces.
Animal Magic is one of those albums that appears richer
every time you listen to it. It's depth and character
grows stronger with each listen. It has several standout
tracks and it seems everyone has a different favourite.
Upon early listening Groove Armada have also expressed
an interest in remixing the next single, and the music
press, the like of the Big Chill have heralded 'Animal
Magic as ""One of the most exciting discoveries for
us this year".

Neotropic - La Prochaine Fois
It's time to welcome the new album from Riz Maslen aka
Neotropic, renaissance woman of modern electronica.
"La Prochaine Fois" continues Riz's search for emotion
and earthiness in electronics, this time with a more
organic and live approach that harks back to the English
folk tradition of Nick Drake, sideways to the post-rock
experiments of Jim O'Rourke et al and forward to a new
way of making electronic music. The album features guitar
playing by Nick McCabe, formerly of The Verve, as well
as main collaborator Paul Jason Fredericks and Sally
Herbert, who has written string arrangements for the
likes of Manic Street Preachers.

Wagon Christ - "Musipal"
After his many moves and moods and interludes and so
on, so forth and thereafter, Mr Vibert, as Mr Wagon
Christ, has ended up producing his first album for his
spiritual home-buddies, Ninja Tune. Thoughtfully taking
us on a Vibert tour of the past 4 years "Musipal" presents
a mixture of new tracks and previously unreleased archive
material.
And very nice it is, too. From the most bubblegum nonsense
to woozy, off-centre strangeness and taking in acid
re-works, panting rapping and, as usual, the crispest,
most swinging beats about, it confirms that Mr Vibert
is happy to head on doing what he wants to do regardless.

Up, Bustle &Out - Master Session 2, Calle 23, Havana
This is the second in the series of the Master Sessions
from UB&O, two albums which were recorded in both their
hometown of Bristol and their spiritual home of Cuba.
The project integrates music, literature and film into
one compelling intrigue.
The project was co-written by, the man who forms the
roots to popular Cuban music. He is Cuba's number 1
flautist and orchestrator, and recently he played on
the successful 'Rubén González' and 'Buena Vista Social
Club' albums.
