Era$e/Rew]nd ~ Film Reviews ~ "The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror" (Peccadillo Pictures- 2007/109mins)

Carry on Screaming - Irfan Shah turns the (breakfast) tables on the establishment with a 'memento' style look at films they either didn't want you to see or didn't want you to remember. This time it's French farce done by Hammer Horror - with anal.

Released 12.10.09

Here’s one for the Hotel Inspector! Trashy, tongue in cheek slasher movie set in a gay Bed and Breakfast, this is not the kind of film Jonathon Ross will be reviewing any time soon..

Travelling to a LGBT convention, five gay and lesbian couples find themselves booked into the Sahara Salvation Inn run by a family straight out of Deliverance (and with more than a touch of the pantomime thrown in). What follows is a camp parody of every horror film you’ve ever seen that’s been set in a hotel.

The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror - Jaymes Thompson
The land ‘lady’ turns out to be a George Bush-worshipping homophobe with a penchant for human mince muffins, and the guests, between trying to stay alive, are busy trying it on with each other. It’s a French farce done by Hammer Horror - with anal .

The aesthetic is a cross between low-budget grind house and the daytime TV movies they play every afternoon on Channel Five. The film has the flow and production values of an episode of Crossroads, the acting and script won’t be winning awards any time soon, and the special effects are pretty crude.

All of the above weaknesses are pretty cool when viewed after a few drinks with friends and to be honest, that’s probably how this film is designed to be watched. The film contains all the kitsch chaos of a mardi gras killing spree.

It’s had quite a panning in the press and it was always going to. The occasional leaden performance gets in the way of its sense of self-parody, however, many comments by ‘fans’ point out that it really does need to be watched with tongue firmly in mouth and with equally inebriated company. Why numb yourself with Hollyoaks and Loose Women when you can watch this?
