What the f***?! Audio Bullys in the area: the
sound of two young West Londoners that have grown up
raving to the basslines of hardcore, garage and house.
22 and 24 respectively, Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale
acknowledge the influence of The Specials, the Kinks
and the Beatles as readily as they do Todd Edwards and
Grant Nelson.
The recent Audio Bullys EP put Tom and Simon on the
map with a snarling blast of suburban b-line science.
Now here’s the raucous energy and streetwise swagger
of their first single 'We Don't Care’ which blends the
amphetamine dynamism of The Who with the wry social
comment of The Kinks and still keeps it wrapped up in
the ribcage-bending thump of UK club culture.
Mixes come from Parisian duo the Buffalo Bunch and Streatham’s
finest Mutiny. Walter Stern, who has previously directed
‘Firestarter’ by The Prodigy, ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’
by The Verve and ‘Teardrop’ by Massive Attack, has directed
the superb video for ‘We Don’t Care’.
When all around are proclaiming the death of dance music,
Audio Bullys are two lads still refreshingly hooked
on both buying and making records. Taking a short lifetime's
worth of music, they recycle it into the freshest and
most innovative sound we'll get this year.
The debut album, Egowar is due for release in
March 2003, and includes the following titles:
Snake
