LEMON JELLY - 'NICE WEATHER FOR DUCKS' DVD/CD Single

THE LEMON JELLY

An illustration of glorious intent: rocking rabbits, dancing ducks, and funky fishes - enter the deliciously lucid dreamworld of those fastidious English surrealists, Lemon Jelly. Games and videos await those prepared to enter. Out January 20th 2003

17/01/2003

Yes, there's certainly no denying they're lemonier and jellier than your own average male-duo, and the delicately daft downtempo crowd pleaser 'Nice Weather For Ducks' only corroborates this little piece of fruit trivia.

January 20th 2003 sees the release of not only the CD single of 'Ducks' but the lusciously flash choreographed DVD promotional vid' to go alongside it (the video, you might say, but it's not now is it?). No strangers to enormously funtastic design - whether it's album sleeves, club flyers, publicity materials or tankards, Nick Franglen and Fred Deakin have translated their lush, lucid kitschscapes of colour and kinetics into a spectacular (if surreal) full length animation.

‘Ducks’ illustrates that there is an eccentric alter-ego to the luscious side of Lemon Jelly’s music. The charming folk guitar and strings of the Playaway intro soons bursts into lucid dreaming style sequences, when everything wibbles and wobbles into an explosion of nursery-rhyme madness. And it's all achieved with an unashamedly English edge.

With the whole barmy experience being bound together by funky beats and Fred’s scratching skills, the results are nothing short of show stopping, and a real treat for those of us who save every club flyer and every possible shred of DR publicity material.

A crowd favourite at their recent successful London live dates, this is happy music for happy people. It's also backed by the ultra rare 'Soft'.

Isn't it amazing what you can do with a forgotten childrens' nursery rhyme, a bit of Salvador Dali, some chill-out beats, a little jazz, a little sunshine, two thirds of a rainbow, and some sticky-back plastic?
