Don't worry, these guys aren't another Nickelback
knock-off. Noise Therapy has more of a harder edge that
is heavy, sonic and rhythmic with an explosive energy
that charges forward with a maturity that few newer
bands have been able to embrace. "It's definitely aggressive
music," explains bassist Rob Thiessen, "but, I don't
think it's really what people call 'aggro-metal' or
'nu-metal.' I mean, it's heavy, but it's a lot more
dynamic than the stuff we've done before. We try to
put melody into everything instead of just having a
bunch of screaming."
Noise Therapy- Dave Ottoson (vocals), Bobby James (drums),
Kai (guitar), Rob Thiessen (bass) and James F (keyboards)-
are not some rookie band that's wet behind the earlobes,
they have been around for eight years and have released
3 albums in their native country and earned their bones
by touring Canada numerous times and winning over a
steady fan base all throughout the Great White North.
Now, feeling as though they've outgrown the coupe they
are ready to fly South to re-nest in America. "There's
only so many times you can go across Canada, we don't
have that many people in this country (laughs)" Thiessen
says, "Conquering America is our number one priority,
I mean, I don't want to piss off out fans in Canada
but, There's so many band that only made it in Canada
and they only get to tour once a year for a couple of
months and stuff like that. But, we want to be on the
road for the next 2 years solid really working this
record and make sure that we hit all the states."
Their latest album marks Noise Therapy's U.S. debut
and they wanted to make sure everything was just right.
They brought in an arsenal of talented producers [Mike
Plotnikoff (KISS, Fear Factory); Rhys Fulber (Frontline
Assembly); Igor (Yes), Mike Wanchic (John Mellencamp)]
to help make this record the best it could be and the
result was pure 'Tension.' Thiessen explains how the
albums title really earned it's name. "It was a real
tense recording session only because we had a couple
of different producers come in and 'Tension' just seemed
to embody what we were feeling when we were recording
the record. In the studio there were the five guys in
the band, our A&R (Tom from Redline Entertainment) and
then we had our producers, so there was a whole bunch
of chefs in the kitchen."
"I don't know if I would ever do it that way again,"
continues Thiessen, 'But, this record turned out to
be really good. Having that many people in there really
challenged us to try some different stuff and spend
more time of different stuff." The end result was a
super tight 10-track recording including the single
'Get Up.' Says Thiessen, "That was the first song that
came out on our first day, like 5-minutes after being
there. We were like, 'holy shit, this might work.' It's
a pretty straight-forward song and the title (Get Up)
is just dealing with the Nay sayers and saying, we're
back, f-k you." With a hard pounding groove and an addictive
hook 'Get Up' may very well be the track to break the
band.
The boys of Noise Therapy want nothing more than to
conquer America and they are confident that with some
'Tension' they will get their way. "Everyone we meet
from the states has been really receptive to our music
and our live shows, so we're really stoked to come down
there." 'Tension' off Redline Entertainment will hit
stores on August 13th.
