Whilst
most teenagers his age are having the kind of dreams that leave Mum the unenviable
task of some quick, surreptitious washing before Dad gets home, Harry’s having
bad bad dreams about Voldermort. Cue the creeping cellos, the quaking cymbal smashes
and the timorous violins. Not even the thrill of the Tri-Wizard Tournament or
the threat of a date for the Yule Ball looks set to even distract the lad. But
ask yourself this: if you had the kind of dramatic score Patrick Doyle
has produced following you around from the minute you started brushing your teeth
in the morning to the time you flicked off MTV2 – wouldn’t you be a trifle edgy? Composer
John Williams had provided the score for the first three Harry Potter films,
but for this round, Patrick Doyle has stepped in. And whilst this may have prompted
a good number of Harry addicts to collapse in a pool of girly tears, the result
is surprisingly fine. And as the tasks set for Harry get more hazardous so too
the risks the directors are taking with the soundtrack which happens to include
not one, not two but THREE brand-spanking new Jarvis Cocker tracks. Crud
might have cheerfully ignored the first three Magic Harry Soundtracks but who
in their right mind could ignore such a clear demonstration of magic as Cocker
teams up with Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood, sticksman, Phil Selway
plus Add N t (X)’s Steve Claydon, Pulp’s Steve Mackey and weirdo
lo-fi extremist Jason Buckle. The tracks - “Do The Hippogriff,” “Magic
Works” and “This Is The Night” - all appear in the film and promise to do the
trick for all those who have been mourning the passing of Jarvis since he took
to writing off the wall poetry and sitting around on his arse. The Harry
Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is set for
release on Warner Sunset Records, November 15th, 2005. Academy Award-nominated
composer Patrick Doyle, is best known for his work on Donnie Brasco, Bridget Jones'
Diary, Hamlet and Sense And Sensibility. Jarvis is best known for his gentle irony
and for wiggling said arse at iconic lost causes. Also available as a digital
download, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
includes liner notes from the film's director Mike Newell. Win copies
