COORDINATES: WHERE THE STARS ARE AT - We Were Promised Jetpacks

We Were Promised Jetpacks

Crud asks Adam Thompson of We Were Promised Jetpacks, Where's Your Head At? New album 'Forget The Night Ahead' out now!

29/10/2009

Whilst the rest of the world scratches its head and recoils in abject indifference to the quixotic quiffs and daring dreams of double-take brothers, Jedward and the baffling chart antics of Sony Epic in their bid to monopolise the Xmas Number 1 and Number 2 spots spare a thought for forking out a couple of quid for the new AA side single, ‘It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning/'Ships With Holes That Sink’ from Edinburgh (via Glasgow) band, We Were Promised Jetpacks – as icy and uncompromising riposte to the karaoke capers of the mainstream charts.

For those who don’t know, the band is every bit as tunefully violent and extreme as their labelmates The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit. The single arrived on our shelves on 30th November. The day is now firmly inscribed in our memories as the day that Post-Punk finally got the mortal stab wounds and ensuing misery it deserved. Crud caught up with the band earlier in the year after learning of their coordinates.

Where are you now and what can you see?
I'm at my desk in my room, in my flat. I can see a computer screen, a lamp and some juice.

What was the last thing you ate?
I had some tuna pasta not so long ago. It was really tasty. I have perfected my technique over the last 6 years that I have been making it.

What was the last thing you loved really quite passionately?
I really liked that Bon Iver album. I did that thing you know when you sing along to the songs walking down the street with your headphones in without really noticing you are doing it. I think it was love.

What’s the next piece of music you intend to buy?
I really want to get an ace hip-hop/rap album. I've been trying to decide for ages which one to get. I'll probably just wait for Dr Dre's next album as I know it won't be a disappointment.

What was the last film you saw?
Labyrinth with Bowie! It was pretty good.

Ever had a recurring dream? What is it?
The only recurring dream I get is those night terrors. Its like when you are half asleep/half awake and you can't move your body at all and it feels like you have gone completely paralysed and you can't speak either! Its not the most fun but I haven't had one in a while. Fingers crossed they've stopped!

What is the most important thing you’ve ever done? Why?
I really don't know. You've just made me realise how pointless and selfish my life is! cheers.

Where in the world do you still want to go?
I'd love to take our bass player Sean away to somewhere where there is some beautiful scenery. He really does love a good dose of gorgeous scenery.

Where or how do you feel most comfortable?
Sat on my sofa watching Seinfeld and playing Pro-Evolution Soccer on the playstation with some friends.

Any plans for tomorrow?
We go off to New York and Texas the day after tomorrow. I have to pack!
