Squarepusher: US Tour dates confirmed to coincide with 'Go Plastic' release
29/07/01

Squarepusher - Warp Factor 6 set to blitz the USA - Noise and beat anarchist, Squarepusher is about to launch his highly acclaimed drum and bass hardcore on the US public. And he's not taking things lightly: "I'm just trying to shut myself out of the mediocrity that surrounds us all. You have to when a bit of plastic's all that represents you in the world."

Squarepusher

This is SQUAREPUSHERS music. With a defiant and uncompromising agenda that defies almost all categorisation.

Twenty something year old, TOM JENKINSON has been causing something of a stir ever since his debut releases on the SPYMANIA label back in '95. The tracks, re-released last year by Warp as the "Burningn'n Tree" album, only serve to amplify Jenkin's irrasciable and devious approach to music. Complex, fluid, always inventive, restlessly striving to strike the right balance between fuelled up simple energy and restless innovation.

These early tracks prompted Richard James and the Rephlex camp, to release 'Feed Me Weird Things' Tom's debut LP, in June of 96. In fact it was here that his hardcore production was forged and managed: early drum 'n' bass with more than a little jazz focused musicality. The sound proved uncompromising. But not so the public. They loved it.

Acclaimed gigs at Glastonbury, Mount Fuji Rock festival in Japan, and Belgium's Ten Days of Techno, where Tom improvised live bass around loose chaotic structures created by boxes and tapes. His legendary DJ sets known to include furious drum'n'bass, hardcore, tequila, even the work of the brothers Bros (I Owe You Nothing?) have shaken dancefloors to an incendiary state.

A ridiculously keen attention to programming detail to rival jazz drumming greats like Buddy Rich and Art Blakey merges with a similarly robust affection for melody to create one of music most dualist sounds: at once complex, at once simple.

Here are details of his US tour with Plaid and Mira Calix.
